According to the Canadian Defence Minister Bill Blair, Canada is open to sending military personnel to Ukraine with the intent to train their troops, reported by the Toronto Star.  But what is their plans and what are the other nations’ responses?

In his interview with the Toronto Star, he mentioned the idea of sending military personnel for training at a Paris security summit on the 26th of February. The French President Emmanuel Macron stated that there was no consensus on officially sending ground troops, he added that France is “not against sending them”.

French Defence Minister Sébastien Lecornu stated that talks were focused on military training or demining operations, “not sending troops to wage war against Russia,” after European countries rejected Macron’s proposal to send troops to Ukraine.

Blair also told the Toronto Star that he does “not want to put Canadian Armed Forces personnel anywhere near a combat theatre that could create the perception that we are taking on any component of a combat role,”

Lithuania says that it’s a possibility and are weighing the option of deploying to train Ukraine. According to the LRT, Kęstutis Budrys (a presidential advisor) said that “We are talking about that possibility, and we are doing this quite openly. There are a lot of nuances about what could happen and under what conditions,” and “Ammunition is the main instrument that is needed today, and that was needed yesterday, but everything is on the table.”

What do you think, should countries deploy their militaries to Ukraine to help? Answer in the comments below.
